Island Explorer
Experience village life on a pristine tropical island. Explore the interior with a stunning half-day walk. Relax and snorkel the sparkling waters in front of your own beachside bungalow, and support communities who are conserving their reef and forest resources.
3 Days / 2 Nights
Our Island Explorer tour is an unforgettable eco-adventure: an outer island experience that brings you in touch with the real Vanuatu. As Nguna and Pele Islands can be safely accessed by boat, there is no need for expensive airfares. Your Vanuatu Ecotours escort will accompany you to ensure you make the most of your experience, and can tailor activities to your liking – snorkelling, trekking, village explorations or just relaxing. You will be hosted by a group of village women in a basic, comfortable bungalow on the beach. Enjoy home-cooked food straight from organic gardens and, if you are lucky, fresh seafood.
At Nguna, you have a choice which walk you do (you must choose your walk before you depart). The Volcano Walk takes you atop one of Nguna’s extinct volcanoes, Mt Marou (472m), where you will be rewarded with sweeping views across the Shepherd Islands to the north, and south to Efate. Parts of the walk are steep and it takes 3 ½ hours on average. The intriguing Environment Walk takes about 3 hours and is a good option for families. Explore a community conservation area at Nguna’s smallest village – a fascinating mixture of old forest, historic relics and community gardens. Or just take an easier Village Walk, adapted to your fitness level, to explore either upland or coastal villages.

You have a choice of activities on your day trip to Pele. The spectacular Pele Round-Island Walk also takes about 3 hours and involves some wading and clambering over rocks, or you can enjoy an easier walk to explore villages at the eastern end of the island. Or you may prefer to relax on Pele’s iconic white sand beaches, snorkel Pele’s own marine conservation area, or discover the island’s rare giant clams.
The vehicle transfer to the wharf at north Efate follows the west coast road and the transfer back follows the east coast road, meaning you also get to do a scenic round-Efate tour as part of this package.
