Island Explorer
Experience village life on the pristine tropical island of Pele. Explore Nguna Island with a stunning half-day walk. Relax and snorkel the sparkling waters in front of your own beachside bungalow, and support communities who are conserving their reef and forest resources.
3 Days / 2 Nights
Our Island Explorer tour is an unforgettable eco-adventure: an outer island experience that brings you in touch with the real Vanuatu. As Nguna and Pele Islands can be safely accessed by boat, there is no need for expensive airfares. Your Vanuatu Ecotours escort will accompany you to ensure you make the most of your experience, and can tailor activities to your liking – snorkelling, trekking, village explorations or just relaxing. You will be hosted by a group of village women in a basic, comfortable bungalow on the beach at Pele. Enjoy home-cooked food straight from organic gardens and, if you are lucky, fresh seafood.
On Day 1, we travel to Nguna, where you have a choice which walk to do (you must choose your walk before you depart). The Volcano Walk takes you atop one of Nguna’s extinct volcanoes, Mt Marou (472m), where you will be rewarded with sweeping views across the Shepherd Islands to the north, and south to Efate. Parts of the walk are steep and it takes 2 ½ hours on average. Or just take an easier Village Walk, adapted to your fitness level, to explore coastal villages.

You have a choice of activities on your second day on Pele. The spectacular Pele Round-Island Walk takes about 3 hours and involves some wading and clambering over rocks, or you can enjoy an easier walk to explore villages at the eastern end of the island. Or you may prefer to relax on Pele’s iconic white sand beaches, snorkel Pele’s own marine conservation area, or discover the island’s rare giant clams.
The vehicle transfer to the wharf at north Efate follows the west coast road and the transfer back follows the east coast road, meaning you also get to do a scenic round-Efate tour as part of this package.
Full tour information, including ‘What to Bring’ and ‘Health and Safety Information’ is provided upon booking. Tour departures are available every day.
